Interest in youth under the age of 15 in gaining work experience and employers' willingness to offer young people work have increased significantly in Estonia since last year, the Labour Inspectorate said.

The amended Individual Labour Dispute Resolution Act brings along considerable changes to the work of the labour dispute committee. The amendments aim to contemporize the rules of settling labour disputes in order to comply with society’s expectations; however, the aim is slightly contradictory in essence. Labour Inspectorate: The Number of Fatal Work Accidents Has Notably Decreased

During the first seven months of this year, 2,935 occupational accidents have been registered in Estonia. 2,264 of these were minor and 670 severe. One work accident was fatal. During the same period last year, 2,943 work accidents had been reported, 2,346 of which were minor, 580 severe, and 17 people had lost their lives.

As of December 17, amendments to the Working Conditions of Employees Posted to Estonia Act apply, bringing about new rights and obligations for parties to an employment relationship, companies using services of posted workers, and the Labour Inspectorate alike. Henceforth, employers are to inform the Labour inspectorate of any workers posted to Estonia.
