The Labour Inspectorate is publishing a sample of the companies that will be inspected this year. In particular, companies that have not submitted a working environment risk analysis, that have had several occupational accidents and where the field of activity is of a higher risk.
Every year, the Labour Inspectorate inspects the safety of 100,000 employees’ in about 4,000 companies. Unfortunately, more than 3,000 occupational accidents occur in Estonia every year. That makes about 8 accidents every day.
The Labour Inspectorate decided to publish this year’s sample with an aim of guiding employers to pay even more attention to occupational health and safety. This gives the employer an opportunity to review whether the working environment is safe and whether their risk analysis is up to date and has been submitted in the self service of the Labour Inspectorate. The companies to be visited were selected based on different criteria. There are companies that have not submitted a working environment risk analysis, that have a high number of occupational accidents and labour disputes, that are part of a targeted inspection plan or where the field of activity is of a higher risk. If a company has not been listed in the sample discussed previously, the labour inspector will still carry out an inspection when an occupational disease has been diagnosed in the company, an occupational accident has occurred or either a tip or a complaint had been received.
The inspections of the Labour Inspectorate will take place throughout 2024 and some may be unannounced. The sample does not indicate when a company will be visited. Occupational safety, health and employment relations will be checked to prevent occupational accidents and create a working environment where everyone feels good.
Consultants will give advice on how to make the working environment safe.
A number of companies, noted separately in the sample, have the option to invite a working environment consultant to their company, who will give advice on how to create a more safe working environment. The consultant will give recommendations for setting up a working environment management system. Working environment consultants see a variety of working environments in their work and can therefore recommend good practices and solutions.
