At the latest, the vacation pay, including pay for annual vacation, child care leave, and academic leave, must be paid to the employee on the last but one workday before the vacation start. The parties may agree that the vacation pay is paid later on, but not later than on the first salary day after the end of the vacation. If the employer delays with the vacation pay payment, the employee is entitled to demand an interest according to the conditions and order specified in the Law of Obligations Act.
The vacation may not be compensated for in money or other benefits during the employment relationship, but the employer must monetarily compensate the unused vacation days to the employee when the employment relationship ends.
Vacation pay is calculated by the employer following the medium remuneration calculation principles, discussed in greater detail here.
